Jumping off the plank
Things about Maureen

Since I’m working on “ME” this year.  I thought perhaps you, the reader should know some things about me.

Let’s see……I’m the 4th child of 5. I have 2 older sisters, 1 older brother, and 1 younger sister.  My “real” father, abandoned us and left my mom with 5 children and no way to take care of us.  Then my mother married the man I called Dad.  He’s the one that passed away on Dec. 27th 2011.  My mother and him divorced when I was 13. I lived in KS when they were married in a tiny little map dot town.  I have fond memories of growing up there.  Then when they divorced we moved to CO.  That was a huge shock and adjustment to a 13 year old girl.  My mom was a single mom and life was rough at times. I ran away when I was 16, moved back home, moved out before I graduated high school, moved back in, then moved out for good when I was 18.

My hubby and I met on a blind date set up by my older sister.  We actually had 2 blind dates.  Hee Hee….that’s a whole other entry. I will turn 43 on the 20th of this month.  I’ve been with my hubby for 24 years come March and we’ve been married 22 years come May.  I’m White, tall (6’), and I wear a size 11 narrow shoe which isn’t a good thing if you are 6’ tall.  You will often here me complain about shopping for clothes that fit me.  Not always because I can’t find things in my size, most of the time because I think clothing and shoe manufactures, designers, etc.  Have no FREAKING clue.  I’m average size.  I set a goal on Sept 1 2011 to loose 20lbs.  I have lost 12lbs so far and continue my quest.  I waited until I was 42 to get my first tattoo, I now have 2 and will most likely be getting more.  I have 2 ear piercings on each ear and, would rather have a tattoo then anymore of those.

I lost 3 children due to 2 miscarriages and 1 abdominal pregnancy.  I have 3 wonderful children: 1 daughter and 2 sons.  I’ve been a stay at home mom since my 2nd child was born Nov 1st 97.  My daughter is 16, my boys are 14 and 9.

I would consider us middle class. We own our own photography business. Because we are self employed insurance sucks and I will rant about that.  I believe “Less is More”.  Love Feng Shui truly believe that everything has energy and not all that energy needs to clutter my mind, my family, or my life.

I’m that friend that will tell you yes, “Your ass looks big in those pants.”  I’m a straight shooter if you ask a question or want an opinion you will get one. I’m an EXCELLENT listener.  I believe one of the greatest gifts you can give another human being is simply to shut up, shut off all devices, and listen without trying to fix them or their situation.  Just listen. Big fan of a glass of wine and some of your time.

I love summer and warm weather.  I love that Colorado has 4 seasons I’m just not a fan of being cold.  I love the color purple and black is probably a close runner up.  Hearts any kind of hearts are my thing.  Some people like cows, apples, roosters, etc…mine is HEARTS. In general I like all music but, a huge fan  of Rock N Roll old and new.  I grew up in the 80’s and still believe we had some of the best music ever made.

We are raising our kids to believe that they can and will be anything they choose to be.  Regardless of what they wear, what music they listen to, etc.  We absolutely have NO TOLERANCE for bullies.

I started writing this tumblr because technology has come so far and this would be a way to hopefully reach others who are like me or could benefit from a story of mine.  I’m a huge fan of Nikki Sixx, Motley Crue’s bassist.  I’ve read his books, and am patiently awaiting the third one.  I’m hopelessly addicted to SIXX:AM his other band.  I admire the way he has written and spoken out about his life and the trials he has gone through.  I find his photography and writing intriguing.  Therefore, when he suggested on his face book and twitter accounts some while back to create in whatever it is that speaks to you just do it.  So I started my tumblr site. The name of my tumblr comes from “The Velveteen Rabbit” story.

That’s pretty much me in a nutshell I would say.  I can always add more later or as something arises that needs addressing.

So until next time….Is your glass half full or half empty?  In reality it is both.
